Acrotech Performance is located at 4503 Ray St., Crystal Lake, IL. The motorcycle portion of our business has grown from simply a shop used by one of it’s owners, Mike Schmidt, as a place to work on his own bike to a full service operation offering many services to fellow motorcycle owners throughout the McHenry County area.

We quickly realized the need for a dyno shop that was willing to work on metric bikes in the area when Mike was looking for a place with a load dyno, to create a custom map for his 2004 Honda VTX Neo. The only reputable shops were hours away.

During this time Mike was also building his own custom bike, that would become known as Acrophat. Acrophat started out as a simple mild custom 1800 VTX. It soon grew into a full out custom. Lack of local shops willing to work on metrics lead him to Highlander Custom Cycles in Dania, Florida. Highlander did all the metal work and paint, shipping the parts back to Acrotech for assembly. During this time it became obvious there was a need in this area for a shop willing to work on customizing metric bikes.

Acrotech now offers many services from building full metric customs to standard 240/250 rear tire kits, handle bar conversions using aftermarket hand controls, aftermarket forward controls etc. No longer do metric owners need to be stuck using ugly stock hand and foot controls. The ability to adapt the more readily available aftermarket HD controls opens up many possibilities.
